We're just starting 2011 and already, people fear 2012. You have probably seen the movie 2012, read the theories concerning the end of the world next year but have you stopped and asked yourself why these theorists just had to pick out December 21, 2012 in particular? If you did, then you are in the right direction. By asking the most important question of why that particular date was picked out, you are on your way to finding out the truth about all this hoopla.

Stories concerning the year 2012 actually have something to do with the Mayan calendar. You are probably familiar with the Mayan civilization, a great civilization that was advanced for their times. They had an advanced system and understanding of mathematics, architecture as well as astronomy. They however measure time in a linear manner, compared to ours which is cyclical. They thought of time in terms of "ages" or "world ages" and they thought that a world age is equivalent to a certain number of days. It's basically the way we view millenniums except that for the Mayan, after a particular millennium or millennia have passed, the world will end.

The Mayan believed that a world age is equivalent to a certain number of days and that is five thousand one hundred twenty-five days (5, 125) days. After the said period, the world will end according to them and unfortunately that date falls on December 21, 2012. Now, are you already thinking of hoarding supplies and shutting yourself into some highland mountain to escape the great flood?

Now, before you do that, stop and realize that we have all faced down a number of doomsday predictions. Remember the Y2K bug and how everyone panicked about the chaos that the computer breakdowns will bring? Did you actually bite into all the hoopla and bought something fearing that you might need it when the chaos actually started?

Doomsday stories have always been with us and they only have one thing in common, they never happen. You've only heard half of the story of what the Mayan believed but nowhere does it say how the Mayan felt and viewed the "end of the world." For them, the end of the world does not necessarily mean the destruction of the world but rather the shift of a current world to a new, better one. No, this does not mean that the world will explode and a new one will take its place but has more to do with the "awareness" of our race. December 21, 2012 according to them should be a time for celebration and not for fear or chaos.

Building an AR-15 - Lower Receiver

Lately, I had taken up a growing interest in firearms and decided to purchase an AR-15. I'm kind of a cheap-o, so I went with the DIY route. Basically, the AR-15 is divided up into two parts - the lower and upper receivers.

The lower receiver is made up of 3 main items:

Lowes Build

1) Stripped lower receiver - basically a hunk of metal with holes and openings, no moving parts
2) Lower Parts Kit (LPK) - contains all the parts you'll need to complete the lower and assemble the trigger, trigger guard, hammer, magazine catch, and bolt catch
3) Stock - these all vary in styles, from fixed A2 style to 6 position collapsible stocks

I found my DPMS stripped lower receiver at a local gunshow. I would strongly recommend that you check out a gun show before ordering online/locally. Usually, there are some decent deals around and you won't have to pay the FFL transfer fee as you would if you bought it online. By the way, the only part that is regulated by the government is the stripped lower receiver. This means that background checks and laws apply to lower receivers the same way they apply to fully completed rifles, pistols, etc. On the plus side, once you have the stripped lower receiver, you can order/buy all the other parts without any hassle and have them shipped directly to your door.

For the lower parts kit and stock, I went with DPMS. This was because I got a good deal at SportsmansGuide.com on the parts and I was trying to keep things as cheap as possible. I ended up paying shipped for the LPK and shipped on the 6 position stock.

Putting the lower receiver together is not very difficult, but it can get frustrating at times. I used this guide from the AR15.com forums from start to finish. I recommend that you print out the guide first, lay your parts out as shown in the diagram, then begin assembling the lower. No special tools are needed, however, you will want to have some punches to punch in the roll pins. You can just get the standard pin punches, no need for specialized roll pin punches if you want to save some cash.

I started putting together the lower without any punches, but when it came time to punch down the trigger guard roll pin, I was wishing I had one. Trying to improvise, I used my Swiss Army multifunction tool to hammer in the pin. After at least 15 minutes, I had finally gotten the pin in, but left the trigger guard all scratched up from my barbaric hammering. Not only that, but when you have to drive the bolt catch roll pin in, you will wish you had a punch. There is not enough clearance between the pin and the rifle to McGuyver something to drive the pin; you must use a punch!

Other than that, the rest of the process went fine. Only thing is, I'll need a CAR wrench to tighten down the stock, but it should be too big of an issue.

Here's a brief note on numbers to consider. The year 2011 is manifesting itself exactly as its numbers predict. The "11" master number which identifies this calendar year is, as always, demonstrating its powers of:

The 9.0 Japan earthquake (updated by the USGS from the original 8.9) is ranked as one of the five largest earthquakes in recorded history. Reportedly, the monster quake moved the entire island of Japan eight feet and shifted the planet on its axis by 4 inches! The date of the quake, of course, was 11 March 2011. Notice the "11" bookends. In numerology the number "11" is a master number of high intensity and action.

In other worldly notes, riots for equality, and the tensions, struggles and conflicts to create equality (the higher octave of the 11-2 energy) are globally ubiquitous, not just in the Middle East but in America and other countries as well, as witnessed by the division in global political systems. The number "11" places one entity (1) against another entity (1), whether those entities are people, political systems, nations or ideologies.

The subcap of 2011 is a 9 (11 minus 2 = 9). The 9 references all things universal. It is the number of mankind, the public stage, the world in general, endings, conclusions. Nine is a number of power and rulership. The addcap of 2011 is a 13 ( 2 + 11 = 13), the number of death and transformation in structures, routines, regimes, order, security, stability, and the established status quo. Thus, 2011 is a year of others (2) in conflict (11), manifesting global challenges for all people (9) in a state of transformation (13).

Furthermore, 2011 is the first year of the "Teen Years" - a nine year period in which the self, the 1, is dominant. Every year until the year 2020 will be governed by egos (individual people, countries, groups, ideologies, etc.) focusing on a new number energy. In 2012 the focus of this 1 energy will be on relationship and others (2) with potential losses (14-5 addcap) and new beginnings (10-1 subcap). The Teen Years are often difficult because of the saturation of the egocentric energy of the 1. Just think of how teenagers 'know it all' and you'll understand the challenges the teen years present to the entire earth in these Teen Years of the 2nd Millennium.

This is not a surprise. This current millennium is based in the number 2 (its master number is "11") and the immense issues it creates in areas of equality, relationships, others, Yin (female) energy, opposition, balance, imbalance, indirect action, social media, and so forth. Furthermore, this thousand year period is just beginning. The Millennia Shift (the change between the last thousand years of the 1 and the current thousand years of the 2) began on 31 December 1957 and will not conclude until 31 December 2031, so there will be more adjustments to experience as the 2 (Two) energy continues to grow, having replaced the 1 (One) energy of the last thousand years.

2011 is manifesting as its numerical structure depicts. Marked by global tension and transformation, its energies affect individuals, groups, and nations. Furthermore, 2011 marks the beginning of the "Teen Years" in which there will be a concentration of egocentric energy. Make no mistake, this is a most difficult and challenging time in Earth's history. Most poignantly, this is not so much a brave new world but a new world in which we must all learn to be brave, disciplined, strong, courageous, patient, balanced, kind, caring and unselfish.

The floor joists of 2 X 4 inch lumber are set on 24 inch centers. They are set on treated skids but the 2 X 4s are not treated so if this shed is placed on a damp surface or on the ground the 2X4's being in such close proximity to the ground may draw moisture. If you have anything that needs to be stored in a dry location then it must not be stored on the floor. The studs in the walls and in the ceiling are set on 24 inch centers. In the walls this may be minimally acceptable but this distance causes the ½ decking on the roof to bow and the shingles do not seal correctly so there is always a possibility that the roof will leak. The floor is constructed with 3/4 inch particle board which will not withstand moisture for any length of time. Any problems with water will cause a separation of the glue and the saw dust composition and the floor will finally fail. The back wall is constructed using 1 inch lumber instead of 2 x 4 studs which is totally unacceptable. The cost of this wooden storage shed is 49.00 installed and it can also be purchased as a storage building kit for 8.00.

The difference between the Home Depot, Tuff Shed, priced at 49.00 and the Lowes Kwik Shed, priced at 49.00 is almost like night and day. You may think that there is some exaggeration on my part, but I assure you that I have no bias in either direction and my motives are strictly as a service to the public. If you are shopping for wooden storage buildings, which I also believe far surpass the metal building kits on the market, then check out the Tuff Shed line at Home Depot.
